Though incorporated in 1993, MAS has its roots deep in the history of Islamic work in America, and its members have been instrumental in developing the community, building its local and national institutions, and ensuring the prevalence of moderate/mainstream Islam.

MAS aims to revive the faith, develop and organize the community of believers, make a significant contribution to the reform/betterment of society, and establish the universal values of Islam within the framework of the American constitution and pluralistic society.

MAS understands Islam as a comprehensive system that regulates all aspects of life. We believe that humanity's only hope for complete well-being is a reform agenda rooted in Islam.

MAS pursues its mission of promoting Islam and advocating its values through civic engagement of different components/sections of the society, and active participation in societal affairs through education, advocacy, and charity.

MAS members came together first and foremost to live Islam in its totality, align their lives with the Divine Guidance, and translate the noble teachings of Islam into living models, relevant discourse, viable solutions, and useful programs and services.

A Cornerstone in MAS thought is the connection between individual relationship to God (fear Allah as He should be feared) and his/her commitment to social activism on earth (strive in His cause as you ought to strive).

We also believe in unity as an obligation and a necessity to fulfill the mission, in addition to the individual obligation of every Muslim/believer to promote Islam.

MAS prophetic model is centered around personal development (tarbiya) and collective/organized work. Tarbiya is the process that foster unity and effective collective work by instilling brotherhood, mutual understanding, common cause, shared vision, and a binding system of consultation and compliance.
