Imam Elkhaldy is the President of the Muslim American Society (Iowa Chapter), as well as National Director of the Inter-Religious Center of the Muslim American Society. Prior to this, he served six years as Imam of the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids and four years as Associate Imam of the Islamic Society of Central Florida.He has been a member of the Inter-Religious Council of Linn County’s Board of Directors since 2000, and has served as Vice-President since 2004. He is a co-founder and member of the Executive Committee of the Children of Abraham in Cedar Rapids, formed in 2005.

In 2006 Elkhaldy joined the Board of Directors of Barnabus Uplift, an outreach program to assist the working poor in the community.
